How to Clean and Maintain Your Commercial Waffle Maker

Following our recent guide on how to properly use a commercial waffle maker, this post focuses on the essential steps for cleaning and maintaining your waffle maker to ensure optimal performance and extend its service life.

Step 1 – Powering Off

First, before any cleaning or maintenance, always turn off and unplug the unit. Allow it to cool completely to avoid burns or damage.

Step 2 – Removing the Loose Debris

Use a soft-bristle brush or a dry paper towel to remove any crumbs from the cooking plates gently. Make sure your cleaning utensils are anti-scratch so that they won’t damage the non-stick coating surface.

Step 3 – Wiping the Surface

Next, take a soft sponge or cloth dampened with warm water. If there are stuck-on residues, you can add a little mild dish soap. Gently wipe the Teflon-coated surface, avoiding excessive water. Don’t clean the product with pressure washer or immerse it in water, or let water seep into internal components.

For stubborn residue, you can use a wooden or silicone scraper to lift off or prepare a baking soda and mix it into the water, apply it to the affected area and let sit for 5–10 minutes, then wipe gently.

Step 4 – Dry the Plates

Dry the plates with a soft towel before storage to prevent rust.

How to Maintain a Commercial Waffle Maker?

Regular maintenance is just as important as daily cleaning. Always refer to the user manual for specific instructions regarding your model. For example, some waffle makers may require seasoning, while others simply need to be kept dry. The Rebenet WB-04B model, for instance, features cast aluminium plates with a Teflon coating. Here’s how to season this type of waffle maker:

1. Before seasoning the waffle maker, make sure it is completely dry.

2. Turn on the waffle maker and allow it to warm up to the cooking temperature (150-200°C).

3. Prepare a high-smoke-point oil like vegetable oil and lightly dab a paper towel or use a soft pastry brush to spread a thin, even layer of oil on the plates. Do not pour oil directly onto the plates, as excess oil can create a buildup over time. Then close the lid and let it heat for 2-3 minutes to allow the oil to bond with the nonstick surface.

4. Turn off the machine and let it cool down completely. Use a clean, dry paper towel to wipe off any excess oil to prevent sticky residue.

By following these cleaning and maintenance steps, you can help keep your commercial waffle maker in top condition, ensuring consistent performance and extended longevity. We’ll continue to publish more helpful guides on how to use and care for commercial kitchen equipment—stay tuned!
